MyPhone Releases Android 4.4 Kitkat Update for Rio, Rio Lite, Rio Fun and Infinity

MyPhone has officially released Android 4.4 Kitkat update for Rio, Rio Lite, Rio Fun and Agua Infinity smartphones, according to a post on Techconnectph. We know that for the past several months MyPhone announced that they would be releasing the Kitkat update for most of the Rio smartphones and that day has finally come. This is a good news for of the said users of the mentioned smartphones.

However not there are a bit of bad news that comes with the release. Over-the-Air or OTA update is currently not available due to the size of files to be downloaded and the handsets may have difficulty completing the switch to Kitkat mobile OS. Users need to visit a MyPhone Service Center and people at those branches will do the update for them. Plus the process is not for free as there would be a Php200 service fee upon doing the update.

If you do not wish to pay the said amount, there are alternative options available online. There are Facebook groups and forum sites providing the step by step instructions on how to do it on their own, but they have to do the update at their own risk too and this may also void the devices' warranty. If you have knowledge on how to update firmware and confidence that nothing will go wrong, you can do it. But I would definitely suggest doing it at those service centers. Paying Php200 is really nothing compare to the risk of damaging the device, losing the files and losing the warranty in the process.

See this list of MyPhone Service Centers to check the nearest one around you. You may also call their customer service line to get more information about it.
