Peter Quill's Father Is Not The One We Think He Is According to James Gunn

It was the biggest cliffhanger or question movie goers were left with after watching the Guardians of the Galaxy, who is Peter "Star Lord" Quill's father? In an early scene where Peter's mother is dying in a hospital room she mentions to Peter about his father being an Angel of Light and that was it. Then before the movie is about to end Nova Prime says that his father is some kind of an ancient being which is unknown to the Nova Corps.

In the comics, Star Lord's father is J’Son of Spartax, the emperor of the Spartoi Empire. Following the comics version of story line, everyone can assume that J'son is the mysterious father. However, since Marvel is known to not fully faithful to its source material for its live-action movies of recent, Director James Gunn, who is now already working on a sequel for 2017 release date, said it is not the case.

In an interview with the Empire, Director James Gunn dropped a hint about Peter Quill's parentage when asked about the question, and he said...
There have been a lot of documents passed around about who Peter Quill’s father is between a select two or three of us. That’s been part of the plan since the beginning, that’s something I had to work out before we shot the screenplay. We wanted to make sure Yondu’s place in everything made sense and it does, so it’s all very specific stuff.
Then he went on by saying...
It’s definitely not the character who it is in the comics, I’ll say that much.
If not J'son of Spartax then who is it? James Gunn promises to tell more about it in the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 in 2017. Nice job Mr Gunn, : )
